Color Guard®: You Can See It.

AgD Nutrition’s most popular product, Color Guard®, continues as a staple of its success. Its roots extend more than 50 years to the Nopco Chemical Company in Harrison, New Jersey, which first sold cod liver oil as its source of vitamin D3.

Later, Nopco was the first to fortify milk with synthetic Vitamin D – resulting in the eradication of rickets in humans in the US. Soon Color Guard® became the largest source of vitamin D3 to the feed industry, filling a deficiency that producers found critical to livestock and poultry health.

Today, by adding Color Guard® to the vitamin premixes, producers can be assured of proper D3 supplementation, and they can keep track of the tiny required amount: one-millionth of a gram of D3 per animal per day. Color Guard’s® vivid blue coloring not only makes D3 a traceable ingredient, but also creates a means for quality control.

Color Guard ® and Micro D ® products are produced in a special manufacturing process which yields irregularly shaped platelets. The particle size distribution of the platelets is carefully controlled to match feed and feed premixes to maximize mixing and minimize demixing. Additionally, the platelets of micro D ® and Color Guard ® contain less surface area per unit volume than sperically shaped spray dried beadlets. The larger surface area of the spray dried products expose much more of the vitamin product residing of the surface of the particle to air, light and other environmental conditions which cause instability of the product. The lower surface area of Micro D and ColorGuard reduce this exposure and result in much greater stability of AgD Nutrition vitamin products.
